Description: Version 5: Combined the 1996-97 aerial photo survey data (Johnson et al. 2003) with the 2004 aerial photo survey for a subset of the original area (Johnson et al. 2006) and the 2005 aerial photo survey (Johnson et al. 2010). Initial survey using 1996-97 panchromatic digital orthophotography for the historic range of the black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) in New Mexico was conducted by scanning Digital Ortho Photo Quadrangle (DOQ's) for towns. 873 of sites were found, for over 60,000 acres. The dataset has been updated (2004-04-20) to show ground-truthing up to 2004. Second photo interpretive survey was conducted for a subset of the original area using 2004 panchromatic digital orthophotography. These data were appended to the original dataset and additional fields were added to differentiate the photo years and identify those persistent prairie dog towns from the 1997 survey to the 2004 survey. Subsequently, an aerial photo survey using 2005 data was interpreted and field truthed and appended to this dataset. The area of the 2005 survey is also a subset of the originhal 1996-97 survey. Additional field validation was conducted in 2009.
