This dataset represents beaver presence across New Mexico HUC12 watersheds, derived from multiple data sources. Beaver presence was determined using survey data (Huey 1950s, Law Enforcement Complaint 2016–2023, and Wildlife Management Division 2021–2023 surveys) and active dam locations from the Defenders of Wildlife Beaver Dam Inventory (medium to high certainty). Survey results were summarized by HUC12 and combined with the dam inventory to identify watersheds where beavers are currently or historically present. The resulting layer, wbdhu12_nm_beaver_distribution, depicts areas of confirmed or likely beaver activity statewide. |
